Lindsay and Sam’s Schoodic Mountain maine elopement was the kind of celebration that reminds me why I love this job so much. It was deeply personal, full of intention, and just a whole lot of fun.
Their plan was originally to hike Schoodic Mountain after their Thursday ceremony for some mountaintop portraits. But when the weather looked iffy, we decided to split their elopement in Downeast Maine into two parts, and honestly, it turned out to be the best decision.
On Tuesday, we hiked up Schoodic Mountain trailhead with all the essentials in tow: fancy wedding outfits, a homemade cake, a bottle of champagne, and some other sweet touches. Lindsay somehow fit her entire dress into her backpack (major skill), and we made our way up the trail under beautiful golden light.
When I say the cake survived the hike, I mean it thrived. Lindsay had baked it herself — a dreamy jam-filled cake with basil buttercream — and it was just as delicious as it sounds. We celebrated at the Schoodic Mountain summit with views stretching across Downeast Maine, a pop of bubbly, and the most stunning bouquet from Salt Farm Flowers in hand.
Then on Thursday — their actual wedding day — the rain showed up just in time for the ceremony, and it made everything feel even more intimate. They exchanged vows in the gazebo at their lakeside Airbnb, surrounded by a few loved ones and a lot of happy tears (including mine).
There was something so special about splitting their celebration across two days. It gave them space to be present, to slow down, and to experience both adventure and connection in their own way.
One of the best parts about Lindsay and Sam’s day was their decision to hike the Schoodic Mountain trailhead for portraits. It’s a lesser-known spot in Donnell Pond Public Lands, which means fewer crowds, peaceful trails, and views that absolutely deliver.
The hike is accessible but still feels like a real adventure — and when you pop out at the summit of Schoodic Mountain, you’re greeted with sweeping views of forests, lakes, and the distant coastline. It’s easy to see why this was the place they chose to celebrate such a meaningful part of their Maine hiking elopement.
